When Jesus died, annual Bible holidays went out.
COLOSSIANS 2
The Bible is a manual telling how to live an abundant godly life for Jews, Christians, and anyone else attracted to Bible morals and ethics.
YOM KIPPUR is the yearly Bible JUDGMENT DAY of ATONEMENT.
Jews AND Christians honor Mosaic Law, the 1st 5 Books of the Bible. So why should the Jews alone gain the immense blessings of this meaningful thought-provoking Bible holiday? We will ALL be judged. EACH and EVERY Bible believer is supposed to repent and ask for forgiveness of the large and small sins that we can sit down and think back on and admit that we committed earlier during the year.
Long ago the Catholics and most Protestant denominations nailed this and the 11 other yearly Bible holidays to the cross, based on their interpretation of Colossians 2. That is why so few Christians know holiday history, and what key events happened on these special days.
POSSIBLE MIS-INTERPRETATION OF COLOSSIANS CHAPTER 2 REGARDING the 12 YEARLY CHRISTIAN BIBLE HOLIDAYS
There are 12 annual Bible holidays, 4 in the spring, two in the summer, and 6 in the fall. These are presented and revered in both the Old and New Testaments.
They help reveal God's plan to save and give eternal life to those who show their faith by honoring God's laws and sabbaths (holidays). The 12 annual Bible holidays have all been corrupted. Most of us can no longer see how God's plan is wrapped up in these holidays. Through a strong ecumenical push, misguided theologians got Catholics and the major Protestant denominations to UNLINK and nail these meaningful holidays to the cross. This they achieved based on a clever mis-interpretation of Colossians 2. As a result, these 12 holidays are now viewed as bygone old Jewish feasts.
Religious leaders probably mis-analyzed the slant of Paul's warnings to the small group of new Christians at that time in history when Colosse was in a declining Roman Empire.
Earlier Greek and similar pagan Roman customs were slanting the religious thinking of these new Christians back into a pagan direction, despite their new knowledge of Jesus and the Scriptures. These new church members were surrounded by peers who were practicing pagan worship. Paul warned the new Christians to be on their guard, and not to stray away from the new truths they had recently learned.
Paul didn't want them to fall for vain, worldly pagan philosophies, such as the binding Rabbinic Talmud which contains laws covering every minor aspect of living. Christ ripped the Pharisees as hypocrites from Satan's synagogue.
Colossians 2:8,13-17 reads: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ, Who has forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross."
Continuing in Colossians 2 "Let no man therefore judge you in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days, which are a shadow of THINGS TO COME", but the body of Christ (judges you).
When Jesus was crucified, what "handwriting of ordinances that was against us" was blotted out? Would God's ordinances be against us as Christians? No. It probably refers to long-accepted popular pagan ordinances, heathen dogma that permeated the Colosse society.
Either that or it could refer to the blotting of the sins of the righteous through the sanctuary service on the JUDGMENT Day of Atonement, as spelled out in Leviticus 16.
The Messiah ascended to take over as our intercessor as the only High Priest of the Order of Melchisedec. He is to cleanse the sanctuary (Daniel 8:14) on the final JUDGMENT Day of Atonement YOM KIPPUR some months or years from now. Jesus blots out the remembrance of sins of the righteous only, thereby removing evidence of the sins of this group selected to live forever.
God thereby removes the chance for Satanic principalities and powers to accuse the righteous. Satan is mad when he loses souls - misery loves company. Satan hates for people get away from his bondage and deceptions, and is getting more and more frantic as earth's 6,000 years of allowed sinful time comes mercifully to an end.
Those who repent, confess, ask for, and receive forgiveness ARE MADE CLEAN, covered with the righteousness of Christ through their deep faith. Their sins are blotted out, and they are covered by Jesus’ protective blood.
Paul would have rejected any legalistic requirements or observances in a system of salvation apart from Jesus. Regarding the WEEKLY sabbath day of REST, if Paul HAD adopted Sunday for weekly sabbath observance, he would have encountered fierce opposition and endless disputes with the Pharisees. The absence of such opposition says Paul still respected and kept the Saturday sabbath and the 12 yearly sabbaths.
These 12 Christian Bible holidays, then, are NOT bygone shadows that pointed to Christ on the cross. These 12 days, especially the 6 in the fall, are shadows of events like JUDGMENT to occur just ahead in the not-too-distant FUTURE pointing to Jesus as KING, not dead LAMB!
What then was nailed to the cross? Not moral laws, not yearly sabbaths, or statutes. But instead, only… the sacrificial animal and bird-killing laws, and … the need for the Levitical priesthood. From the cross forward, no more sacrifices need to be made by Levitical Priests on ceremonial holidays, since Jesus was the sacrifice pointed to.
The 12 holidays are from the beginning and into the future forever, an integral part of God’s plan of redemption!
In Genesis 26:5 we read that Abraham obeyed God's voice, kept His charge, His commandments, His statutes, His laws. Thus God’s laws, commandments, statutes, and judgments given at Mt. Sinai and elsewhere were already in existence in Abraham's day and in Noah's day, and thus have been a part of God's eternal law all along.
There are many non-canonical records and secular histories in addition to Bible New Testament scriptures showing that the new Christian church members, after Jesus resurrected and ascended, still kept the 10 annual holidays. So these 12 yearly sabbaths were NOT nailed to the cross! The Bible indicates they will be kept throughout eternity (read the end of Isaiah 66:22,23).
Paul's warnings are not against the yearly holidays, but against false methods of observing them, especially those tied in with pagan customs. Moral law was not done away with, but indeed fulfilled. Celebration of the various feasts and holidays will undoubtedly continue forever, since God has willed it.
Paul found great value in the prophetic significance of these 10 Bible holidays which have deep meaning for Christians today and forever. These are holiday shadows that reach past death on a cross to the return of KING Jesus who will bless us by setting up His everlasting Kingdom.
